THINK FIRST

Helping Students Build Strong Critical Thinking Skills

Media Masters Rock supports K-8 students in learning how to evaluate the content they encounter online. Critical thinking isn’t about being negative — it’s about being thoughtful, curious, and truth-seeking-evidence-based when responding to what they see on the internet and social media.

CRITICAL THINKING – is not natural to us humans. Because it means mentally overruling the natural human tendency to make assumptions and take mental shortcuts. We think critically by being skeptical, asking questions, and attempting to find evidence that either supports or does not support ideas we’re thinking about, not just “going along” with our first impulse (which can often be very wrong).

On this page, you’ll find videos, activities, and classroom-ready resources that help students learn to:

• Ask questions before they believe or share information
• Look for credible sources and real evidence
• Understand the difference between facts, feelings, and opinions
• Recognize the motivations behind online posts

These tools are fully aligned with the Alabama Course of Study for Digital Literacy, making it easy to support required standards while helping students become smart, safe, and responsible digital citizens.
