LESSON OVERVIEWS
Discover the five Media Masters lessons that empower your students to be kinder, wiser, and more responsible digital citizens — in the library, online, and beyond.
LESSON 1 – Rule 1. THE RUBBER BAND RULE – Everything on social media can snap back on you, be careful what you do.
LESSON 2 – Rule 2. AQBS RULE – ASK QUESTIONS. BE SKEPTICAL. Is something on social media creating a strong emotion in you? Pause… Ask questions. Be skeptical.
LESSON 3 – Rule 3. ASK – WHO’S GETTING THE CANDY – With every post on social media someone is getting candy. The candy they’re getting isn’t actual candy… it’s money, fame, or popularity. So ask the question, “who is benefiting from this post?”
LESSON 4 – Rule 4. ASK – HOW FULL IS IT? – Before you post, always ask yourself… “is it helpful? Is it hurtful? Is it truthful? How full is it?”
LESSON 5 – DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP FOR KIDS: HOW TO THINK FIRST ONLINE The internet is full of half-truths and deepfakes. That’s why Media Masters stop, think, and check before they believe anything. Use your critical thinking skills every time you’re online.
BONUS LESSON – CRITICAL THINKING MISTAKE CHARACTERS + MEDIA MASTERS MOVE – Meet 11 online “thinking mistakes” and learn the Media Master Moves that fix them.
